Cellist, keyboardist and singer from Lyon, Antoine Duchêne starts his project Anton Oak in 2015 with the single « Satisfied », released by the Parisian label XVIIIEMEPENINSULE and immediately noticed by JD Beauvallet (Les Inrocks). He quickly releases his first EP “Bruises”, entwining strings, synths and hip-hop beats to accompany his folk voice.
A year later, Anton Oak comes back with “Howl”, an EP written as others would write a film.
“Howl” is an earnest tale, intimate and universal at once. The “film” evolves as the tracks go by, and the light finds its colour.
Recorded between Lyon and Paris by Sabrina Duval and Lucas D’Angelo, co- written and produced by Théophile Denis, this EP features Loïc Fleury (Isaac Delusion) on vocals for the single “Legacy” whilst Andreane Detienne sublimates “Maux” with her violin. The track “So Far Too Close” gives birth to a short film, in collaboration with Robin Pogelerski, and wins Best Music Video at the ShootIt festival in Lyon.
Joined on stage in 2017 by two musicians to fully express his live music for “Howl”’s release party at the Boule Noire in Paris, Anton Oak becomes a Ricard Live S.A finalist a few months later.
On this occasion, he performs an arrangement of “Same Flowers” with a string quartet in the Saint Eustache church.
After completing the “Howl” episode with an animated video for “Legacy” (by David Pagaille), he shares a brand new video by Robin Pogelerski for “Blare” in January 2018, announcing a new EP this Fall.
