BIO

‘Home’ is a hard thing to pin down for someone who’s constantly on the move. Scout Gillett knows this, but since leaving Kansas City in 2017, she’s found one in Brooklyn’s DIY scene, playing in multiple bands and even setting up her own booking company, Road Dog Booking, to organise local shows and tours. Her fearless nature stems from a childhood spent running barefoot in rural Missouri and a coming-of-age in the Kansas City punk scene. Her debut solo album ‘No roof no floor’ is a bold and spirited yet warm and intimate meditation on trust, abandonment and what makes a home. Recorded in a large wooden barn with the doors wide open, «No roof no floor» gives a sense of space befitting its title. On some songs, you can even hear the chirping of crickets. The arrangements – to which Ellen Kempner (Palehound), David Lizmi (MS MR) and Kevin Copeland (The Big Net) contributed – also reflect Scout’s rural roots and indie spirit; a fusion of catchy guitar melodies and the velvet vocals so characteristic of Scout. Scout’s velvet voice and open-hearted lyricism are her signature.
